Friction in Basketball:
Definition of Friction:
Friction is when the force that two surfaces exert on each other when they rub against each other.
Types of Friction:
Static Friction:
Objects are not moving
Sliding Friction:
Solid surfaces slide over each other
Fluid Friction:
An object moves through liquid or gas.
Rolling Friction:
An object rolls over a surface
Friction Involvement in Basketball:
In the sport basketball friction is involved so much. As you see above, friction is when the force that two surfaces exert on each other when they rub against each other. Though, there are four types of friction: static friction, sliding friction, fluid friction, and rolling friction. Each type of friction is used in the sport basketball.
Static Friction:
When you are not moving like when you are sitting out for a quarter, you will be in static friction.
Sliding Friction:
When you take a charge, you are in sliding friction.
Fluid Friction:
When you take a shot, it will be in fluid friction. This happens when it slows the ball when it is shot or passed through the air.
Rolling Friction:
When a basketball ball player bounces the ball you have rolling friction
